MSI File vs App

Hello All -

Up until this month's (May) update, I've always been directed to install a new Windows Installer Package - PBIDesktop_x64.msi. Today, I was notified to update PowerBI Desktop, and it forced me to install the PowerBI Desktop App. Problem is, after it installed, it won't let me launch. Getting an error message: "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item."

Is the app the new norm now? Is there no way to continue just by updating through an MSI file?

Thanks

Hi @a68tbird,

Microsoft Store on Windows can automatically install app updates. The default Update apps automatically is set to On. You can turn it off to disable the autoamtically update of Power BI desktop. But it will affect to other applications.

For the error you got, please try the suggestion in this blog to see if it works.
