Since installing the January 2018 version of the desktop, I am unable to work with any of my existing reports that use directQuery. I get this message:
Connecting to tables from more than one database isn't supported in DirectQuery mode.

As a test I created a new workspace and created 3 queries against the same DB. All looked good while in PowerQUery mode -- even with "refresh all". But when "Close and Apply" the message appeared and I was unable to do anything else.
Guess I'll need to find a copy of the December Desktop

Exactly the same problem here, my version was 2.54, i downloaded it yesterday.
I've uninstall and install the older 2.53 (dcember 2017) and it's working, guess it's a bug of the new patch?
after messing with it for a long time i can get some of my tables to update but still stuck with a couple that won't, problem seems to be with the advanced "advanced options" when you edit the query, i can pull in a full table using the wizards but all of my custom sql queries have been giving me a problem.
We are seeing this behavior as well, which is a showstopper for us, as ALL our reports are directquery.
Please fix ASAP.
