Is using Power BI certified Custom Visuals (e.g. Text bar Chart) pose a risk to data security?

So someone recently brought to my attention that using custom visuals comes with a potential data security risk.

This was immediately alarming to me, because I work with highly sensitive data. I tend to rely a lot on visuals like Text Bar Chart, Tornado Charts, etc, because they offer just the kinds of visualizations needed.

I'm wondering if Power BI certified visuals pose a risk as well!

Hi @rainynights

look at this.

Certified Power BI visuals are visuals in the Marketplace that meet certain specified code requirements that the Microsoft Power BI team has tested and approved. The tests are designed to check that the visual doesn't access external services or resources.

Hi @mwegener , thansk for the response.

I read that bit too.

The part that has me tripped up is the "external services" bit. This is what I haven't been able to make sense of.

"The tests are designed to check that the visual doesn't access external services or resources"

By "external services and resources", it means that the data the visual uses exclusively stays within the Microsoft space, right? So the answer to my question, laid out in explicit terms, would be that yes, custom visuals that are Power BI-certified by Microsoft do not pose any additional risk to data security?

Yes, that's how I understand it.
