Incremental Refresh: RangeStart and RangeEnd set-up

Hello all:

I have Pro license and tried to set up Incremental Refresh for my data-set- As it is available per Feb updates.

My sales data is from 01/01/2018 onwards- Understnad the RangeStart and RangeEnd will be automatically updated after refresh, I still set up as below dates first:

However, when i tried to input "RangeStart and RangeEnd " values in "Custom Filter" for sales dates, I found I can't...

It asked me to enter specific dates!

Not sure what should I do now? Hence ask for advice.

Hi,

Please try to check your parameter type whether is 'Date' or not:

Yes, i have set the parameter type as date.

Hi,

If you set parameter as Date type, you should enter 12/12/2020 instead of 12/12/2020 00:00:00 in parameter.

But based on the instruction, I need to input the value of "RangeStart" & "RangeEnd" instead of the dates??

Hi,

Yes, you should input RangeStart/RangeEnd parameter instead of dates.

See this:

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/service-premium-incremental-refresh#rangestart-and-rangeen...

If my answer has solved your issue, please mark it as a solution for others to see.

Thanks!

My issue is that I can't type the value as RangeStart & RangeEnd...@@

I could only input the dates.

Please kindly let me know how to solve this issue (type in values)

have you changed the parameters to be DateTime?

And the column on which you are applying the custom filter to also has to be DateTime?

Try to change RangeStart and RangeEnd parameters to Date/Time/GMT.

On Custom Filter use the parameter filter, and the select your parameter.

Do not type RangeStart or RangeEnd on the date value.

See ya

It needs to be set as DateTime to work correctly.

Hi there

What happens if you click on the arrow drop down which should bring up the calendar picker?

Yup! I could select the dates if moving the arrows.

However based on the instructions of incremental refresh, I shouldn't input specific dates, but only the values of "DateStart" "DateEnd" in the fields... The issue is I can't type the values   @@

I think you might be getting a bit confused.

The parameters are to be created to be only really used when the dataset is uploaded to the Power BI Service. And then when the dataset is refreshed with the incremental refresh policy it will then inject the required parameters into the RangeStart and RangeEnd.

All you need to do is to have anything in there before uploading to the Power BI Service. It will be overwritten once the incremental refresh starts
