Hi everyone,
I have Power BI desktop in my computer and I am trying to get an external server with Windows Server 2003 and SQL server 2005.
I clicked on Get Data and I get the following error:
Details: “Microsoft SQL: A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: TCP Provider, error: 0 - Timeout exceeded.) "
Does anyone know why I having this error? thank you in advance.
Tatiana.

Hi @amitchandak.
Finally I got the connection. The issue was that i was using the port number 2437 instead of 1339.
Everything is working right now. Thanks for your help.
@TatianaGuihur , You are not able to reach SQL Server. Are you able to connect the same using SQL server management studio?
Is Connection details, the port is correct. VPN or IP whitelist is in place?
refer this for more debugging:https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sql/database-engine/configure-windows/troubleshoot-connecting-to-th...

Hi @amitchandak thank you for your answer.
Yes I am able to connect to the database using SQL server management studio.
However I am not sure about the VPN or IP whitelist. How and where can I check those??
Thanks again.
