Importing Excel file with changing number of rows

Hi everyone,

I am very new to Power BI and am looking for help on a problem I'm having.

I imported an Excel file from my OneDrive into Power BI Desktop so that my Power BI report would update automatically if any changes are made in Excel. But my problem is that the tables from the Excel file will have a changing number of rows, since there's a growing number of sales records that will be added throughout the year. When I first imported the tables, I added in additional rows to account for the future growth, but Power BI recognized these extra rows as errors. How can I get Power BI to recognize all rows with data in them, given that the number of rows will be constantly changing?

Any help would be appreciated!

Why would you add additional empty rows to a table in Excel, as such table dimensions are dynamic?

Should you still need empty rows in your table, then my suggestion would be to filter them out in your import query, immediately after the Source step, before the Changed Type step.

I did not know that tables could be dynamic, so I wasn't using tables. I feel a bit stupid now, but thank you for fixing my issue!

Hi @KM3033,

May be the data type issue i hope. Check the data type of new rows or values you are inserting.
