Importing Excel Online Document through Sharepoint, into PowerBI

My team currently uses an Excel Online spreadsheet which is maintained by the team.

While not an ideal datasource, I am looking to have Power BI consume this file, and represent the information in a dashboard.  I am enocountering difficulty finding a thread in the community which simply states the steps of connecting to the data using the "Get Data" function.

Can somone represent the steps in a reply, as it seems like this would be straightforward.  In some cases, depending on the "Get Data" steps that I execute - I seem to get data about the contents withing the SharePoint folder, but obviously I am looking for the data in the Excel document, not metadata about the file contents.

Are you using SharePoint on-premises or SharePoint Online?
