Huge model Size best practice

Hi guys,

I have quiet a large data source.

Data is PnL data in a banking environment.

I have tried to aggregate from source as much as possible, but it still about 30mil records a month. Over 4 years.

What would the best practise be when wanting to create PBI reports and dashboards?

Connect live to an OLAP/TABULAR model. (does PBI not load the entire TAB model into memory?)

load from the data warehouse?

my concern is the size affecting perforance.

can I partitian the data?

thanks    guys

Ian

Hi @IanCockcroft ,

Firstly, Power BI Premium supports uploads of Power BI Desktop (.pbix) files that are up to 10 GB in size. For more details, please review this article.

Secondly, if you choose import mode, you can follow the guide in this article to optimize your data model.

Thirdly, if you don't have Power BI premium license, it is better for you to use DirectQuery or Connect Live mode to connect to the data source as 1GB limitation doesn't apply to directquery datasets.
