Huge Data Set Refresh in Power Bi Desktop or Power Bi Service

Hi Team,

I do have a very big data set (150 million records) where I'm using the import feature to extract the data in Power Bi Desktop.

As Im on VPN it takes almost a day (sometimes more than that if there are any glitches in the network)'.

Is there any efficient way of refreshing this data set on the Power Bi Service side, instead of in Power Bi Desktop?

Is there any way that we can publish the empty data set from Power Bi Desktop and Refresh it in Power Bi Service then connect to the same data set thru Power Bi Desktop?

Note: I use Custom SQL with ODBC connection

Hi @sivashankr ,

Sorry for that in Power BI Desktop, DirectQuery mode is not available in ODBC data source.

You just can import the data and publish to Service. You also need to configure the gateway for refresh.

Once you publish the report, the refresh will proceed as scheduled.

Please refer this post, hope it helps.
