How to remove live connection from .pbix file ?

 Hi,

How we can remove live connection from .pbix file? 

I do not want to recreate entire report layout, but I need to change storage mode what is in use.  Is it even possible?

Switching from Live connection to Import mode currently is not supported.

Your demand is a good idea, while it is not supported to implement in Power BI currently.
You can vote up this idea for this function：Support switching SSAS connect model from "Connect Live" to "Import"

Or you can submit a new idea to improve the Power BI.
It is a place for customers provide feedback about Microsoft Office products . What’s more, if a feedback is high voted there by other customers, it will be promising that Microsoft Product Team will take it into consideration when designing the next version in the future.

Hi,

I tried your solution and it worked. I was trying so hard to remove the live connection because I don't want to recreate the entire report layout. IThis feature is not yet availbale in Power BI which is quite frustrating. But your alternative worked and I am soo glad I found this thread. Thank you very much!

Hi,

1. If you are trying to change the same file type then you can follow the same.

    a) File-->Options and settings-->Data source settings

    b) Change Data source.-->select new source file

If you want to change the source different file type ( for eg: instead of excel file, an sql data needs to use)

1. Get Data-->select new source file

2. Go to advanced edit query-->Advanced Editor and Copy the M code

3. Paste this code to old file source file.

@karo Have you tried to change them to import using the storage mode?

Use storage mode in Power BI Desktop - Power BI | Microsoft Docs. 

Otherwise, it is possible to change out the connection in the Power Query Advanced Editor. I usually create a new table to the new source, then in advanced editor find the connection part. Now I go and replace the existing tables to the new connection in that part of their advanced editor code.
