How to deal with HR data

Hi,

Not a techinical issue but was hoping to get some feedback on how this issue is dealt with by any users with experience with this.

My company is implementing a new HR and Payroll system which to report on requires separate Business Objects licensing.

Now we already have BI devs but the CFO is adamant that they cant be allowed to see sensitive data.

Surely HR departments cant be expected to have their own report devs.

How have other organisations dealt with this?

The whole point of datawarehousing is the consolidation of data, is there any best practise I can point management to?

Thanks

Jon

Hello @Anonymous

You should look for row level security in Power BI.

You may find following articles helpful in this context

To implement the security, someone has to have access to the data.

At the moment, I'm told no dev within the organisation should be able to see certain fields.

Sounds likes it is not practical and if these constraints have to be in place, the reporting will need to be outsourced.

My question is more, is this a normal restriction?

I had been part of such projects where confidentiality of the data was a prime concern. In such scenarios, we design the report/data model using the dummy data. All row level security also being applied during this. And then once it has been tested, the report can be connected with the live data, to which, access can be restricted. The finance team/CFO team can be the owner/admin of the report and they can control who can have access to what level of data.

Hope this makes sense.
