How to convert pbix into pbit (automation process) + how stop refresh on pbix

Hello,

Let me explain our context; we are migrating some of our datasources set via odbc to synaspe, databricks, sql etc... hosted in azure.

The problem is that we've got around 1300 reports to migrate. that'sound weird if we ask to the people who create the report to rebuild it (it contains several table and their star schema are really heavy sometimes).

So to help them and speed-up the process, I would like to know if there is a way to convert a pbix to pbit without being force to open manually the pbi desktop , wait the refresh is done  and then save it in pbit.

By this way I will be able to script that in powershell , unzip the pbit , apply the changes based on some criteria and rezip it (and rename).

extra questions, when we open a pbix , each time it start by doing a refresh. Is there a way to prevent that ? Based on the report is can take more than 40min.

Thanks if you have a solution 🙂

Miguel

Hi, @Wolfiz

For your question, here are my answers:

Q1: For how to auto convert the .pbix to .pbit file ,you can refer to this document:

Automate the process of exporting Power BI files (... - Power Platform Community (microsoft.com)

Q2: If your Power BI Desktop connection mode is Impoet mode, Import mode will save our data in a .pbix file, so every time we open Desktop, we are not performing a refresh operation, but reading the data in the .pbix file, which is not how to cancel.
