How to construct effective tabular BI-solution

Hi all!

Please clarify some aspects of BI-solutions architecture..

"As-is" data pipeline:

MS SQL Server (on-premises)  --> .pbix --> Power BI Cloud

Some issues:

  • .pbix file is close to 1GB size (I heard there is some kind of limitation for size)
  • I suppose, that in future the performance of full import from SS to .pbix won't become faster...
  • Some "heavy" measures calculation falls when using MS Excel as OLAP-client. (out of memory)

What possible data pipeline configs can help us to avoid all of mentioned issues?

Usage of SSAS Tabular as intemediate layer?

Also will be great thankfull for references to any sources regarding topic.

Thank you in advance

Hi @Anonymous ,

There do some limitations for Power BI with import mode, I suggest you try with Live Connection mode to contribute your performance:

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/desktop-directquery-about#live-connections
