I have a table with list of accounts and multiple metrics associated to the Account. I'd like to have a running number that shows up as a 1st column in the table. Depending on whatever metric I sort by or even if I sort by Account name itself, the serial number column should always just show 1,2,3,4,5... Just need a way for user to visually identify the count when they are looking at a list.
Note, the above the is just an example so I'm not looking for a solution that is specific to the example illustrated above.
Just need to know if there is a way to add a serial number to the table visual.

Based on my experience, I don't think there is a way to add such a Serial Row Number Column which won't be influenced by the sort order of any columns in the Table visual currently.
Here is a similar idea shared on Power BI Ideas forum. You can vote it up and add your comments there to improve Power BI on this feature.

Not clear from your explanation exactly what you need, but you can add an index column to any table easly in Power Query. Is that what you are after?
No. Not in Power Query. I need an index column in a Table or Matrix visual. Just a running row number in the table visual.
