How can we set up a report to automatically refresh to real time numbers

We are setting up a PowerBI report to run on a monitor to display real time(or close to real time) numbers of the company employees. We will be using the Pro version of PowerBI. We are limited to scheduling 8 data refreshes per day with the Pro version. If we do a direct query instead of importing the data.

QUESTION:

Does the data need to be manually refreshed every couple minutes to show real time on the monitor or will it automatically be refreshed when the data in the database changes when setting up using direct query? How do I set it up so it automatically refreshes?
