How Can I Sort the Months in Chart when I don't have 'month' as a separate data item?

Hey guys!

So I am trying to sort the order of months using this visualization (Area Chart), but I am having some issues. Our program started  in March 2018, so I want the graph show the data from March 2018 (not January) all the way up to now, which means it would cross the year as well.  How can I do it?

Just note that I don't have month as a separate date item, I just use the feature the visualization offers.

Thanks a lot 🙂

You need to add some columns to your Date table. I have two columns for this:

  • MMM-YY - this is the column I drop in visuals. Jan-18, Feb 18, etc. It is a text field built in Power Query.
  • MMM-YYY Sort - this is a column I use to sort the MMM-YY column correctly. It is an integer field that is the year*1000 + Month. So it is 201801, 201802, 201803, etc.

Does that help?

DAX is for Analysis. Power Query is for Data Modeling
