Grouping by families

I'm trying to group nodes by edges into separate families. I have an edge table of 100+ edges relating to 30+ nodes. How does one group families? Also, each family can have 2 or more top nodes.

Could you please clarify more details about "group nodes", "edges" and "families"? If possible, please share some dummy data and expected result.

Hi Jimmy,

I'm working with family trees.

Here's how I'm using the terms:

• "Nodes" - separate objects that exist in a dataset (namely, directed relationships between people)
• "Edges" - the links between people
• "Groups" - the individual families

Here's an example with two families. 

This is a sample edge table. The "source" is the "parent" and the "target" is the "child".

B	E
B	F
C	E
C	F
D	E
D	F
E	G
F	H
I	J
J	L
K	L
L	M
M	N
N	O
N	P

The first family includes: A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H

The second family includes: I, J, K, L, M, N, O

I have a working M Query that produces results but is slow (upwards of 10 minutes for 7 families of 80 total nodes). I'm more than happy to upload it but I'm hoping that there is a simple way Power BI can separate the nodes by families.
