Google Analytics Data Download Issue

I'm using the latest version of Power BI Desktop and I'm connectiong to a Google Analytics view that contains data back to 2010.  I buld a very simply query that looks at pageviews by day and it ran and loaded easily.  I then added the additional dimension of page to a new query.  We have ~24K pages on our site currently, and had thousands back in '10 when this GA account was opened.  So I understand that the second query is going to have many more rows of data than the first.   Unfortunately I keep getting an error during the LOAD process.  The evaluation state seems to go well, then PBI moves to the "loading data" stage, and it seems to get hung up.  The message I'm seeing is as follows:

PBI GA Waiting Message.jpg

PBI eventually gives up and I get this error:

PBI GA Error Message.jpg

Do/can I request less data from GA?  Is that possible during the intial request?  I could probably get away with just using a couple of years worth of data.  Can I filter the data request before it loads into the PBI data model?

Thanks in advance for any and all suggestions.

Hi @RG71 In theory you shouldn't have any problem to pull that data, as a workaround, maybe you can try to test your connection with a 3rd party connector. I use windsor.ai GA's connector and before exporting to PBI I can filter the date range in Windsor platform, so I can limit the amount of data that comes to PBI, maybe that's what you need in this case. Just if you wonder, to make the connection first search for the GA connector in the data sources list:

After that, just grant access to your GA account using your credentials, then on preview and destination page you will see a preview of your GA fields:

GA-2.png

There just select the fields you need. Finally, just select PBI as your data destination and finally just copy and paste the url on PBI --> Get Data --> Web --> Paste the url.

Hi @RG71 ,

Did you connect to the data source in this way? I need more information to judge.

Third-party service: Google Analytics connector - Power BI | Microsoft Docs

Try installing the previous version of the desktop:

Previous monthly updates to Power BI Desktop and the Power BI service
