Github download from online report to desktop

Hi,

I have been using Microsoft's guide for linking GitHub data (https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/service-connect-to-github) to a report for specific repositories. It generates a great template view of various metrics and is really useful for the most part.

I love the look of the reports generated and want to download some of these pages and visuals of the report they create into my own report I am compiling for the business (which incorporates Excel data, database and more) to provide an overview of how we are doing. However I am struggling to do this as it says I cannot download a PBI file to my documents in order to process this request.

Can anyone help with this?

Hi,

Please try to export data to Excel and then connect to this Excel on Power BI Desktop.

Reference:

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/visuals/power-bi-visualization-export-data#export-data-fro...

Hope this helps.

Best Regards,

I don't think it is possible to pull down the pbix from a template app. But what you can do is to click on the "Get Data" button in Power BI Desktop, then search for the GitHub connector, then enter your repo details and user credentials when prompted and you can then bring in the Contributions, Issues, Punch cards etc into your own model and then link it up with other data.

Thanks @d_gosbell - how would I then be able to get those visuals and measures they have on that app displayed within my report as currently I can connect to it but would love ability to take those views already created and jut add them to my desktop without having to spend ages creating measures, views, visuals etc. from scratch?

Sorry, but I'm not aware of any way of copying those items out of a template app.
