Getting Access Forbidden Error While Connecting Power BI with SharePoint Online Root folder

Getting Access Forbidden Error While Connecting with SharePoint Online Root folder even when i am admin to the sharepoint site, i tried changing the privacy level to Organizational accoutn as mentioned in few blogs as solution.

I checked with my internal support teams i.e. Power BI SUpport and Sharepoitn support if it it is an internal access issues, they confirmed it is not.

Kindly help me get out of this error.

Hey @harishchhokra1 ,

i have encountered this problem quite often, if I tried to access content within Sharepoint online, what helped me was doing this:

  1. From within the Power BI Desktop open the pbix that you want to access Sharepoint content
  2. Goto File --> Options and settings --> Data source settings

Delete all existing permissions that point to Sharepoint and contain the site name, do this for the "Data sources in the current file" and also for the "Global permissions".

Just hit refresh, if asked for your credentials make sure you choose "Organizational Account" do not choose "Windows". This at least is valid for resolving connections problems to "Sharepoint online".

Hopefully this helps to solve your issue.

Regards,

Tom
