Hi, when I'm trying to access data warehouse cube with PowerBI I'm getting an error for which I just don't know what to do. The same thing happens in Excel when I choose option Get data. The only way I can make it work is by creating connection in Excel but I need PowerBI.
I've selected Get data - Analysis services, typed the name of the server and its instance and chose Import option. After that I can see all of the cubes but when I choose to browse them and select particular dimensions and measures to import, this error shows up:
AnalysisServices: Internal error: An unexpected error occured (file 'mddiscovermd.cpp', line 230, function 'MDDiscoverMD::SerializeRowToXML').
Can someone help me to better understand why is this happening?
Data warehouse is actually part of System Center Service Manager 2012R2.
Do you use the latest version of Power BI Desktop(2.50.4859.502)? How about you use “Connect Live” option to connect to SSAS database in Power BI Desktop?
Regards,
Lydia
Hi v-yuezhe-msft,
Yes, the latest version of PowerBI is in question but this was happening with previous ones also. Connect live doesn't let me go any further than that since message pops up that data source doesn't support a live connection and that Exploring multidimensional models with a live connection requires SQL Server Analysis Service 2012 SP1 CU4 or later. Our current build is 11.0.2100.60 which looks like is somewhere below mentioned for live connection but nevertheless, we have our testing environment with same settings and versions but there I can import dimensions and measures without any problem.
I would recommend you install SQL Server 2012 SP3 for your instance, then check if the connect live option works well.
Regards,
Lydia
