Get Data -> SQL Server Database Import Hangs, OK button spins

Hi all,

I am trying to import another SQL Server data source into PowerBI. When I attempt to import the data by clicking on "OK", PowerBI just hangs and the OK button spins.

When I open a new file, Power BI is able to connect to the same data source and import the data without problems.

The current file has many data sources. I have about 40 tables. The largest table has ~300k rows, most are much lower than that. I am thinking there is a limit to the number of data sources or this PowerBI file is corrupted in some way. Any idea why this is happening and how to fix it?

Cool, I typed a reply and it vanished again, because I had not signed in...

Not sure what fixed this. Think Power BI was hung up on creating a preview for a Python connection data source. I created a reduced version of that data source, it imported successfully and then the SQL connector worked again as well.

the hard way to figure that out would be to recreate your entire setup in the new file.

40 tables is probably not a technical limit but you have to ask yourself if that is an efficient solution. Surely you can combine some of these sources, like by using a Folder connector rather than a File connector etc.  Maybe provide some more context.
