Gaps in Scatter Diagram

Hi all,

I am trying to draw a scatter diagram as follows:

X-axis: Index column

Y-axis: Price

Legend: Action (Three action values as legends)

The scatter diagram looks "almost" perfect. However, there are some gaps in the graph that I'm not able to understand. There are no null values in the rows, so every index number should have a price and action value. Not sure why these gaps exist.Capture.PNG

Hi @ashrafkotb

The scatter chart is showing the data points you have in the dataset.

The gaps are where your prices change enough to create a visible gap.

If you don't want these gaps change to using a line chart.

Hi @ashrafkotb - Scattered Charts as name suggests can not be contineous. They are used to present the data over the graph area in a scattered way. Is there a reason you wanted to use Scattered graph only? Can you use Line chart instead? there is lot of flexibility you can choose in line which is not possible in scattered. With your data line chart looks like as below:

Capture.PNG

There are couple of things you can modify-

-In Format tab- check x-axis and change type to Contineous with scale type linear

-in Format tab- Check shapes and Join type Round with line style Solid.

-Also change Show market to ON if this helps

Hope this will resolve some issue.

Let me know if this is not you are after..

Cheers,

-Namish B

Hi Namish,

Thanks for your reply.

The issue I'm having with the line chart is that legends show as separate lines over the price line, possibly due to repeat action values despite that index and price values are unique for each row.

What I'm trying to achieve is having one line chart, with different legend colours in the same line, rather than separate lines. The scatter seemed to do this well, apart from the gaps. So, any way to achieve this using the line chart?

Can you post a sample of your dataset for review?

Based on the sample data provided, I couldn't duplciate your example.  Can you provide a larger dataset, or provide a sample in the specific ranges of the Gaps you are missing?

Thank You,

Forrest

Hi Forrest,

Did you possibly get a chance to look at the full dataset?
