Fun Question: Can you use the ArcGIS visual to map a population by timezone?

Interesting request/project just came across my desk:

Can you map a population based on timezone?

The table/data I'd be using/pulling from has a STATE column, ZIPCODE column, and an ADDRESS column I could utilize.

I'm just curious if the ArcGIS visual has the ability somehow to extract the time zone based on a fields State, Zip or even Address.

Has anyone ever tried to do this before?

Hey,

the ArcGIS visual is not able to extract the time zone.

I think what you are looking for can be achieved using

Azure API calls, but beware that you have to create your own user-defined functions.

First, determine

latitude and longitude by using geocoding, here you will find an introduction to Azure Maps and Python from inside Power BI

https://www.blue-granite.com/python-in-power-bi-webinar-dec-2018

then, get the timezone

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/rest/api/maps/timezone/gettimezonebycoordinates

Hopefully, this provides some additional insights to tackle your challenge

Regards,
Tom
