From Shapefile to TopoJSON for shape map

Hi.

Like a few others, I am having trouble converting SHP files into the TopoJSON needed for the custom shape maps.

I download from a govermental site, and choose SHP file(s) and choose the only avaliable UTM/ETRS89 (prev. EUREF89). The four resulting files are shared here

In mapshaper.org, I leave the default checkmarks and import the four files. I simplify choosing "Prevent shape removal" to 5% and choose Repair on the 13 line intersections. The resulting, exported TopoJSON file is also in the shared folder

However, when imported into Power BI Desktop's new Shape Map, the result is not what one could wish for:

I hope one of you will be able to give a hint as to how to make this work. It looks like such an awesome and much needed feature! Thanks for any help!

(I am btw aware of this post, which does not solve my problem).

1 ACCEPTED SOLUTION

Turns out, the solution was to only add the SHP file to QGIS not the entire collection. I think, that's what fixed it, but the important thing: It works now.

Hi,

I also face trouble in converting a polygons SHP to TopoJSON.

Converting with mapshaper or mygeodata.cloud, I get a file which displays boundaries correctly in PowerBi, but doesn't have any attribute. What should I do to preserve the fields (like district name, province name, population, etc.)?

Thanks

Have you checked this topic? I had the exact same problem as you do, and the solution there worked for me.

Thanks for you answer.

I should have noted that too, but yes I have and it did not work 😞

I should probably try a followup in that thread or the blog post mentioned there.
