Formats and hierarchies disappears, when connecting to the composite model via excel

Hi

I am currently working on a composite model in Power BI Desktop, where I combine a cooperate SSAS tabular model with an excel sheet, placed in our Azure Data Lake. I am facing some problems, and hope that you can help me:

When I connect to the composite model from the Power BI Workspace via Excel, all the measure formats and hierarchies that was developed in the Coorperate SSAS tabular model disappears. Is there something I can do to fix this or is it a bug?

Hi @dkmahf,

Yes, I know the composite mode but the stable version AS connector does not support the 'direct query' mode. (for the stable version it can works as I mentioned above)

If you are using the preview feature to enable the 'direct query' mode of AS data source, date hierarchy usage on this mode is a known limitation that lists in the official document(similar to lbendlin mentioned):

Using DirectQuery for Power BI datasets and Azure Analysis Services (preview)#considerations-and-lim...

For this scenario, I'd like to suggest you consider submitting an idea to improve this preview feature.

Hi @dkmahf,

If you use the import mode to loading data from SSAS tabular, all the fields will be recognized as text format and lost their structure and calculation fields. (calculate fields result will be fixed and analyzed as text fields)
You can use 'live mode' to get data from SSAS to keeping the original structure and calculation fields but this mode not allow you to use other types of data sources at the same time.
