Form relationships between two columns from two tables

I have one table with a unique reference i.e. 'SPP009(b)', and I have another table with a unique reference i.e. 'SPP009(b) - text'.

The second table has text after the unique reference number within the column.

How do I make a relationship between these two columns if one has only the reference and the other has the reference and description?
