Filter filters other Filters

Good morning

I have a report with Multiple Fact Tables and DIM Tables (Country & City ) that filter these fact tables. There is a one to many relationship between the DIM and Fact tables. Each Fact table has a column for each DIM table.

I'm quite sure this is a relationship problem, but I can't get the DIM Tables to Filter each other. Example, Country Filter a country is chosen, then in the City filter, only the cities from that country should appear.

What would the recommended course of action be here? Bi Directional connection doesn't work.

Kind regards

So for this specific example I would create one dim table called something like "location" or "geography" as different columns within the one dimension will filter each other. Grouping related attributes like this is a much better idea than having lots of one or two column dimension tables.

But if you want other, unrelated dimensions (like Product) to also filter the Cities (so that only Cities that sold the selected product are shown) then it gets hard as the way to do this would be to do something like putting a visual filter based on a measure (eg to show sales amounts > 0) but unfortunately this is not currently supported.

Although note work has begun on this feature (see https://ideas.powerbi.com/forums/265200-power-bi-ideas/suggestions/12545673-visual-level-filtering-in-slicers)

Also note that the only way for unrelated dims to filter each other is to join through the fact so it can potentially have a negative impact on the performance of your reports.
