Fill Out Values In Power Query

Hi,

I have a dataset with null values for Project name below it's first appearance. For example:

ProjectValue1Value2
A423
 42435
 523
 5467
 4563
 67
B45634
 2346
 43
 34637
 25724
 54726
 5434
 553
 6435
 2325
 5632
C546
 77
 24575

I want to fill out everything below the Project name until a new name is encountered:

ProjectValue1Value2
A423
A42435
A523
A5467
A4563
A67
B45634
B2346
B43
B34637
B25724
B54726
B5434
B553
B6435
B2325
B5632
C546
C77
C24575

Any ideas on how I can approach this?

Hi @Anonymous

In the Power Query editor, you need to right click on the Project column and choose Fill Down.

Hi @Anonymous

It depends. Your data needs to look like the below first:

You'll notice that the data in column [Project] is null. If it is, then do as @lkalawski recommends. Just right-click on the Project Column, Fill, and Down.

If it is not null though, you need to replace the stuff there with null. So right-click on the [Project] column and select Replace Values. You have two things to try easily:

  1. Leave the Find box blank and put the word null in the 2nd box with no quotes. This will replace "" with null.
  2. Put a space in the Find box and null in the 2nd box. This will replace a space with null.

if that doesn't work, you'll need to figure out what is truly in that first column. The Fill Down/Up is a great feature, but it only works with nulls.
