February 2020 Desktop Update?

Hi all,

I have PBI Desktop download link bookmarked (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=58494), which lists "version 2.78.5740.721, date published 02/18/2020", however... version downloaded is 2.76.5678.782 (December 2019).

I've been reluctant to install February 2020 gateway after hearing of connection problems and was going to wait until desktop was in sync.

Anyone else have this issue or a new/different download link?

TIA, Danny

If someone going to fix an issue?

Thanks to my friend who has a december version, but on my win10 pb was installed from store and updated automatically.

And it's not working.

Have you tested before release? A little bit angry.

@comandor

Turns out it's a known issue stated on https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/support/ ,I guess we'll get a fix soon.
Meanwhile we can use the December version, I'd suggest you to install it separately from your Windows Store version and work there.

Did I just get lucky and got a working one?
I downloaded this one on Feb/18 and this is working fine in my most complexes files, such as one with more than 100 tables...

@zapppsr, you beat me to it... finally opened my most complex file (not quite 100 tables 😉) and no "saved database" issues. Hope this is resolved for everyone soon!

Hi @musicbydannyd !! Hehehe 🙂

This 100 tables report  is an exception. It is a compendium of many different business scenarios that automatically calculate our Management Contract scores. Most of my other 70 reports are not that big, but some are also complex.

Regards,

There's a newer version uploaded on February 21st but it still has the same error.

This was posted in comments of Feature Summary Page (https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/power-bi-desktop-february-2020-feature-summary/), which includes link to download December 2019 installer:

Some Power BI Desktop customers using the February release may run into “We weren't able to restore the saved database to the model.” error while opening the PBIX file. Engineers are investigating. As a mitigation, customers can use December release of the PBI Desktop that can be installed from here: https://download.microsoft....

If you experience this issue and can help us troubleshoot it, please reach out to alexgor@microsoft.com. Thanks!

Thanks @musicbydannyd  this SAVED me!!
is this the version that we should have in order to continue
to our NORMAL lives: Version: 2.78.5740.841 as of February 21st?

@cabc_xlorla, thanks for the kudos. Honestly, I haven't installed the 02/21/2020 version yet (doing it now 😁), but if EITHER of the February updates are causing issues, it is recommended to revert back to December 2019 version until a fix has been announced by PBI team.

Again, earlier February version 2.78.5740.721 is working for me.

Good luck!

Danny

Hi all,

I found this in the comments section of feature summary (https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/power-bi-desktop-february-2020-feature-summary/)

"we plan to have a fix for it in the next couple of days.
In the meantime, there is a workaround: in Power BI Desktop, you will need to go to File > Options and settings > Options and update the Regional Settings -> Application language for your locale so that it matches your OS locale settings, or uses the Windows default display language."

Hopefully, this helps someone out there...

Hi @musicbydannyd where did you find that version: 2.78.5740.721 ?

Also I tried that option of switching the regional setting but it did not work for me  : (

Thanks for the reply mate!

Hello, @cabc_xlorla

Turns out I have this 721 version on me, uploaded to WeTransfer: https://we.tl/t-EVEloxkKPE

Maybe it will help you, doesn't fix the problem for me.

@cabc_xlorla, ugh... sorry. I know that must be frustrating.

I'm glad I'm not alone in this. I hate the fact that some of us have to download it this way and have to see all the excitement from others who have the downloaded it.

Link is now working correctly... I was able to download Feb 2020 64bit version at 6:00 AM EST. I have yet to open any files as I was going to install February gateway first.

I'll post here if I encounter any errors.

Good luck,

Danny

Hi Danny,

can you please tell me where did you download the Feb 2020 64bit version at 6:00 AM EST from ?

I checked download center, downloaded the PBIDesktopSetup_x64.exe 20 minutes ago, uninstalled power BI desktop, re-installed it, but still the same error: "We weren't able to restore the saved database to the model".

Thanks in advance for your reply.

Best regards,

Bart

@BartVerhoeven, here's the link I used for msi installers (both 32 & 64 bit): https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=58494

Good luck!

Danny

Hi Danny,

It's the same spot I downloaded from, unfortunately still not working for me.

Anyway, I'll keep on trying.

Thanks a lot for your reply.

Bart

@BartVerhoeven @mhammo  Try it now. It just started working for me.
