Explain this measure

I am new to DAX so please forgive if the question is a bit pueril  .Can anyone please explain what is happening in the screenshot marked in red ?Cannot get my head around it.

 

The measure forumla is : Measure = MAXX(Sales,CALCULATE(SUM(Sales[Sales$])))4.png

Hello ,

There is no specific requirements as such.Just that while playing around with DAX I stumbled across this behavior.I will post some sample data after sometime.But you can create the data using the ones I have posted on the screenshot.
