Expanding a merged table clears out original table column data

Hi,

I have a Power BI query that has worked perfectly for months, but now a query is doing something I have never seen before.

In one step, I have merged two tables.

Note 'statuscode_display' column values.

In the next Applied Step, I have expanded the merged table columns.

Note that the 'statuscode_display' values have been cleared out entirely.

Why am I losing the column data?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Michael

Hi @stmicbarr ,

The reason that casue this issue is that there is no corresponding value in the right table when you are using left outer join to merge two tables in power query.

About merge tables and join kind, you can refer these articles that could help you:

  1. Joins in Power BI
  2. How to Change Joining Types in Power BI and Power Query

The 'statuscode_display' column is not related to the merged query or expanding it to reveal the new columns.  This is simply the step in the query where the values in the column disappear.
