Expand icon not available on a record field when extracting from a Sharepoint list

Hi everyone

I hope someone else has had this interesting problem!

My clients have discovered Sharepoint lists and now want to do endless reporting out of them. I am not allowed to be involved in helping to set up the lists so I usually end up with a hot mess, but the most challenging so far is seeing "list" fields that do not have an expand icon (see image attached below). I'm not quite sure why some do and some dont, but I still need to get at the data.

I have tried adding column, and then using Text.Combine(fieldname, "|") to get all the fields into one so that I can get the data after the first "|", but that hasn't worked. I've also managed to get the record to extract to a table and transpose the rows to columns which I could then link back to my data source on the id, but that only works for a single record and not all of them.

Has anyone else had this problem and managed to solve it?

Thanks in advance!

Hi @Anonymous ,

Could you please provide the screenshot that does not show the expand icon after connecting to SharePoint list in Power BI? Also could you please provide what the data looks like initially on the SharePoint side? What's your expected result? Please review the following threads with similar problem to yours, hope their solution can help you fix the problem.

How to expand a SharePoint list column with no expand icon available?

In addition, are you trying to connect to a SharePoint list and create a report? If so, you can refer to the content in the following links to connect to the data source and process the data.
