Error while opening .pbix report in PowerBI Desktop built on shared dataset

Hi,

I am facing the following issue:

I have a downloaded .pbix report which was built on a shared dataset. When I try to open the report in power BI Desktop, I am getting the following error: "Looks like we're unable to access the dataset".

Maybe I am missing the something here but my understanding was as I am accessing the local copy of the report, the 'permissions' on the 'shared dataset' set on PowerBI service should not matter.

Appreciate any help in resolving this issue. (or correction in my understanding)

Thanks in advance !

Pk

Hi @Anonymous,

I think you need to confirm the underlying data source first.
If that report is designed based on the power bi service/AS or other live mode data sources. They may not only require you to have the report access permission but also required the permissions to access to these data source.
