Error Provider Microsoft.PowerBI.OleDb is not registered.

Hello community,

I received a strange error message, when I tried to load data from Excel with Power Query in Power BI Desktop:

Bild1.png

The text is German, translated in English it's that:

Error saving changes to server. Error returned: "The provider 'Microsoft.PowerBI.OleDb' is not registered."

Power BI is installed in this version: 2.103.881.0 (March 2022).

It runs on Windows 10 (English version).

Can you help me?

PS: In other threads for this topic I found the hint to uninstall and install Power BI Desktop again? I will try that (can't try until tomorrow), but do you have some tipps for me apart from that workaround?

Greetings

Jan

I confirm that the uninstallation and installation was the solution that served me.

Thankful.

Hi @Jan_Trummel,

Try the solution in this document:

Solution #1

Install the 64-bit version of the Microsoft Access Database Engine

  1. If the error specifically states issues with the Microsoft Access Database Engine 2010 and asks you to install the 64-bit version of the software, then do the following.

  2. Go to Microsoft Access Database Engine 2010 Redistributable page.

  3. Select the language and click the Download button.

  4. Install the software on the machine where Power Bi is installed.

  5. After the software is installed, try to connect access DB from the Power BI desktop. Check if installing the 64-bit version of the software has resolved the error.

Solution #2

Delete and recreate Shortcut

  1. Try to delete the Power Bi shortcut from the desktop.

  2. Now create a new shortcut from the Start screen for the Desktop.

  3. Or simply try to open the Power Bi app from the start screen.

  4. This issue can occur if Power Bi is failing to create cached folders inside the temp directory.

Solution #3

Uninstall and Reinstall Power Bi Desktop

  1. If the issue persists, you may try to uninstall and reinstall Power Bi on your computer.

  2. Press Windows Key + R to open Run.

  3. Type control and click OK to open the Control Panel.

  4. Go to Programs > Programs and Features.

  5. Select and uninstall Power Bi app.

  6. Now go to Power Bi download page and download the latest version.

  7. Install the app and check if the not registered Power Bi error is resolved.

@Jan_Trummel , I checked a few of those solutions. I think uninstall and install is the solution that I am able to trace back.
