ESRI Maps Visual and cost implications of the Plus model

Hi All, I am relatively new to PowerBI, we are just starting to develop our first big BI project, rolling out an operational dashboard to many users.

We had planned on using the ESRI mapping tool, but the Plus subscription has dented our confidence in this option. $5 a month would work out to be very expensive for us, it is not an option. Yet we need to be able to plot many points without constantly getting nagging " in system" prompts encouraging our users to upgrade. This has an uncomfortable feel of the "in game" prompting that has become so familiar in the online gaming world. In a commercial setting we need to be able to budget for our our costs, know that our investment is going to be consistant and robust. This development seems to undermine this requirement. We are a heavy SSRS user (with SSAS), which gives us the stable and manageable environment we need, but we love the look and feel of Power BI, it would be disappointing if the draw of the "cash cow" that monthly subscription model offers became the defining factor for Power BI.

As a UK Public Sector organisation ( with a very significant Microsoft infrastructure investment and expensive Software Assurance) we feel a little aggreived that the standard ESRI maps includes USA facilities, but we have to pay for the Plus to get the UK based equivalant. Not fair to the rest of the world Microsoft!

Am I missing something here, or do others feel the same?

Thanks

Rob
