Dynamic Slicer based on Slicer

Hi everyone.

I am triyng to get a slicer data type to change dynamically according to the value selected in another slicer and would appreciate some guidance on how to solve.

Picture 1Picture 1Picture 1: This is the basic data I am working with

Picture 2Picture 2Picture 2: I took the table from picture 1 and added a few more steps as follows:

  1. Duplicated the Attribute columns (Authorization Date, Class, etc) and change the date type columns to text
  2. Unpivoted the original columns (for a Legends slicer)
  3. Added the attribute columns as a Query and eliminated duplicates
  4. Then unpivoted the duplicated columns (for a Categories slicer).
  5. Added the attribute columns as a Query and eliminated duplicates
  6. Added Slicers for "Attribute Legends", "Value Legends", "Attribute Categories" and "Value Categories"

My problem is that i am not able to change the data type for the "Value Legends" and "Value Categories" to "Date Type" or "Text Type" depending on the selection made on the attribute slicers.

Any guidance with either or both woud be highly appreciated.

Hi @miltonayala,

I'm afraid it is not possible to dynamically change the data type of values shown in slicer. In this workaround, it looks like fields displayed in slicer are dynamic, actually, all displayed selections in slicer are from a single column. But one column can have only one data type. Based on my test, there is no workaround to achieve such a requirement.

@miltonayala

Is it not possible for you to relate 2 tables and use Edit Interactions so that your slicers dynamically change based on each other.

Thanks for your comment, however it was already done (through a workaround) in the option shown in the picture 2. In that option my issue is how to dynamically change the data type for the new slicer.

Any thoughts?

I would like to dynamically change the data type of a slicer based on the selection on another slicer and would appreciate any help or guidance on the topic.  Date type is currently shown in as text (in picture 2) but I need it to change to date  or text and date dynamicaly depending on the value on the independent slicer. Any suggestions would be highly appreciated.
