Dynamic Formatting on Report Axis

I have a formula utilizing dynamic formatting using the method described on Kasper de Jonge's blog here:

Dynamic Formatting. Basically, I'm using a switch function to harvest a user selection from a disconnected slicer that will format each measure.

This method works great in excel; however, it does not in Power BI. If I use the Measure for the values of a line chart (for example) the line chart turns blank. So, long story short, Power BI turns this measure into Text and will not allow me to switch it to general or any other data format.

So, is there a way to either A: Get this method to work in Power BI or B:get dynamic formatting on an axis another way (for example going from % to $ and vice versa).
