Dynamic Currency Format outside of table visuals?

Hi folks,

Dynamically formatting a number depending on the selected currency is great (loads of tutorials are available). But this will only work in a table visual :(. If I try to use this dynamic format in a bar chart or a pie charts, my measure is considered as a string, and doesn't show in the visual...

Is that something that any of you has managed to deal with, or is it a limitation of Power BI for now, while waiting maybe for the 'fx' icons of these visuals allowing a dynamic formatting of values?

Thx!

Hey @BenCardineau ,

you can do that with calculation groups. There you can change the way the text is displayed, but the number stays the same. For that reason you can also use it in charts.

Check the following tutorial on how to do that:

Change formatting of each individual value dynamically with Calculation Groups - What the fact.bi

If you need any help please let me know.

Just FYI...

hum, actually it doesn't seem to work all the time:

- Bar or Column chart: no problem for data labels, but doesn't work for Total label (I added the formatting measure in the visual section of filter pane

- Tachometer 5 range: doesn't work

have you experienced the same @selimovd ?

Thx

Ben

Hi @selimovd , you're a star!

It takes a while to get familiar with calculation groups (not so much the syntax in Tabular Editor, but more the fact you then must place the formatting 'measure' somewhere in the visual (in filter, or axis...). But other than this counter-intuitive usage of a formating measure, this is great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kudos to you!

Hi Ben,

Can you share your pbix files and some examples? I am facing the same issue and can't work it out although using the link provided.

Kind regards,

Tom
