Dyanamic filtering of power bi report in apps/applications

Hi,

I want to create a power bi report and embed that into our own in-house developed application. 

I want a functionality like this:

1. The user uses his/her credentials to login to that application.

2. User can see the power bi report of data meant to be viewed by him/her only(The data is personal and users should not be able to see each other's reports, at any cost).

In effect, I want to either import dynamically pre-filtered data or  use a dynamically developed direct query which will give me pre-filtered data. 

I have the user's name column in one of the tables in DB.

Is this possible in Power-BI or via using other connections like Analysis Services in Power BI.

Note: Creating power bi reports for each user separately is not an ideal case, because there will be hundreds of users.

Any help will be really appreciated.

Hey @Hussain ,

the feature you are looking for is called Row Level Security (RLS). RLS allows to define roles that restrict users to a certain subset of data inside a dataset, avoiding to create indiviual reports.

RLS is supported in embedding scenarios, a report/dashboard is embedded into your own web app, and of course by applications inside the Power BI Service.

Hi @Hussain ,

You may set Row-Level Security (RLS) to manage roles,  please see the link Power BI Desktop Dynamic security cheat sheet, which described the detailed steps. Maybe it doesn't work, there are some tips to let it work and test it efficiently.

If you're embedding to Power BI users (user owns data), within your organization, RLS works the same as it does within the Power BI service directly. There's nothing more you need to do in your application. See more : Row-level security with Power BI Embedded.
