Drill down from line chart not working for matrix

I have a few questions to make sure I am doing this correctly...

I have two pages in my file.  Are the filters (date range) and drill downs supposed to flow to the second page or are they independent of one another?

a second question which is more important....

On my second page, I have  a line chart on top and a matrix on bottom.  When I click into the line chart on a certain month, the matrix shows all of the data for that measure, not just the month selected. Is this how the matrix was supposed to work? I might need a different solution here. I really just want to show the team members with the highest number of instances.

1.They are independent of one another. Slicers only apply on current page.

2. This is how the matrix works. Try instead of line chart a clustered or a stacked column chart. If you click one column then the matrix will be filtered. You can multiselect with ctr + left mouse click.
