I know that with other database engines (e.g. MSSQL) when either filtering or applying role-based security PowerBI performs the filtering using the database engine (when using Direct Query of course).
That is to say, it doesn't fetch all the data down and then perform filtering in PowerBI itself. I basically executes a "Select" statement with a "WHERE" clause.
My question is: does it do this with Teradata?
(i.e. execute a select statement in the data engine to perform the filtering, thereby keeping network traffic to a minimum)
Hi @RGI,
Teradata database supports DirectQuery mode in Power BI. And when you load data from Teradata database using Direct Query, no data is imported or copied into Power BI Desktop, it queries the underlying data source. So if you use the role-based security in database, it will pass the filter to powerbi using Direct Query mode.
