I am looking for the proper measure settings that would not summarize the measure over time but would summarize it for a given day. Other BI tools have similar settings to allow to pick the first or the last date's values for a given period.
Example: a table has records for every day, for each account, including opening and closing balances and debits and credits by day. While summarizing debits and credits for a month fpor all accounts makes sense, the opening and closing balances should not be summarized for the month: for beginning balance only the first day's total should be showing and for the closing balance the last day's total. Is there a measure setting to achieve this?

You'd need to provide some data with an explanation of what you expect. There aren't "measure settings" per se. There are a set of functions to be used in measures for this, like OPENINGBALNACEMONTH or CLOSINGBALANCEMONTH though they may not be what you are truly after.
