DirectQuery to Power BI dataset stops working with Mixed Storage

I have built a Mixed Storage data model in Power BI desktop and it works fine for 15 minutes or so, but then I get the error that all of my visuals cannot be displayed (see details below). A strange work around I found was that I can open a new Power BI Deskop file and create a connection to the Power BI dataset that I am using in my mixed stoage and it suddently works again.

Any thoughts on how to resolve this?

Just wanted to share. I saw a similar issue when connecting to xmla. Intermitently this error showed and haven't been able to reproduce since. Not sure why the xmla read/write is needed since all I was doing was pulling data from an xmla client and am able to do so again without changing anything in the capacity settings or anywhere else.

Hi @mattao44 ,

So far, does this issue occur every time a report, connected to dataset via DQ, is created? Or is it just intermittent?

If it happens by accident, based on the error message, please check if XMLA read/write support is just disabled when the issue occurs.

If it keeps happening, please update your PBI Desktop to the latest version (2.91.701.0) and test again.

Best Regards,

Icey
