I always use Import for loading the data. So, i do not have much idea about the Direct Query.
I have a requirement to load the data usign "Direct query" connecting to Oracle database. But it is not working, i tried in 3 different machines. and everywhere am getting the below error message.
Hi @Anonymous ,
Please check your Oracle database version, the direct query only supports Oracle Database (version 12 and above), please refer to this document: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/desktop-directquery-data-sources

We are using latest version of Oracle.
I found out that i dont have Oracle Data Access client installed and am not able to install it.
Once installed, hope that might solve my issue.
Hi @Anonymous ,
Any updates? Does it solve your problem?
Best Regards,
Teige
sorry for the late reply.
Yes we were able to install it in one of the machines and it is working now.
Thank you all for the help.
Thanks,
Soumya
If you haven't already.. I would start troubleshooting by checking the data source settings and verifying your database info/credentials/permissions are set correctly.
Also see this link for what sounds like the same issue.. could be a 32 vs 64 bit problem. https://community.powerbi.com/t5/Desktop/Oracle-Databases-Client-could-not-be-instantiated/td-p/3305...
The permissions are correct and they are working fine in import mode.
Any settings has to be changed for direct query?
