Desktop app with Azure SQL database and DirectQuery says We couldn't connect to your DirectQuery

Hi everyone.  I'm using Power BI desktop with Azure SQL database.  If I connect and do Import, it works fine and imports the data into Power BI.  I can also access the database with SSMS no problem at all.  I can also authenticate either via SQL credentials, or using Microsoft account via Azure.

However, when I pick DirectQuery instead of Import, the next screen works as normal showing my tables and sample data as shown here:  https://imgur.com/a/rXzyTHX

But when I click Load, it then gives a message about creating schema or something which seems fine, then it says "Working on it..." for about 30 seconds and then says: https://imgur.com/a/mRUtgOh

Which doesn't make sense as it literally just showed me data from it one screen prior and it works with Import just not DirectQuery.  I'm running as administrator with the latest version of Power BI downloaded from the web not the Microsoft Store and am on Windows 10.  I've also tried on a virtual machine with a fresh install of Windows 10 with the same issue.  Any suggestions?  Here's the log:

Hi all, I think it's working but it's strange.  If I REMOVE the :1433 port from the server name when using my desktop PC it seems like it works now!  However on my Mac running Windows 10, if I DON'T add the :1433 to the end then it would give an error every single time saying "Something went wrong" and the error message would literally be "Error" and nothing else.  I'll keep an eye on this and see now.
