Power BI is stalling at the "Initializing model" step when first opening the application, and this is preventing me from opening or using the program. (This is after a fresh restart on my computer.)
Note: several others have reported the same issue this week on this closed thread: http://community.powerbi.com/t5/Desktop/Power-BI-Stalling-on-Initilizing-model/td-p/17542
The prior thread seems to have the same symptom but a different cause.
I encountered the same problem.
my laptop is running a Windows 10 64. Powerbi downloaded automatically its 64bit version. I tried downloading the 32bit and it was up and running.
Perhaps someone should look into it. I mean the problem - 64bit version unable to run on 64 bit machines.
@madmys - Interesting... In my case, this resolved over time (a month or so of me using another machine instead). My only working theory was that possibly being on the Windows Beta ("Insiders") builds were causing some kind of conflict with the Power BI program. I don't have any evidence for this theory though.
Any chance you are running a beta build of Win10 also on the machine you are using?
Hi aaronsteers,
Well, that is hard to tell.
Let's try to start Power BI Desktop under Clean boot:
How to perform a clean boot in Windows
In addition, Power BI Desktop announced the Oct Update, please also update and check it out.

If issue insists, then please post back.

I did the clean boot it still did not work.
I also removed 64 bit and tried 32 bit, neither works.
I'm on Win 10.
Hi,
Did you get any solution?
I am also stuck and can't go further than "Initiliaizing model" after the instalation.
I tried with 32bit & 64bit (ma laptop runs on 64bits).
Thanks for your help
@madmys, except a clean boot including any Microsoft services, I have followed all the recommendations:
Do you think it can be linked to a Microsoft services applications ?
Or any other ideas ?
Thanks in advance,
