I faced the same issue, I was trying to deploy the power bi file on testing env (D365 FO) and deployment was getting failed. The issue was we created a PowerBI report on the latest PowerBI desktop version which has some preview feature and not supports FinOps. So we uninstall the latest PowerBI desktop and install earlier versions of Power BI Desktop (prior to September 2020 update) and create the report again. Uploaded the report on LCS and deploy it (D365 FO). It works.

Hi @Anonymous ,

I was once heard about this also, is it true ? and which earlier version are you using ? any before September 2020 ?

Because I was heard it should be March 2020.

And what Preview feature actually causing this ? is there any formal information from Microsoft it self ? Since I need to give some 'valid' reason for my management.

Thanks in advance.

Yes, it is true, uninstalling the latest version and installing the older version help to deploy the report on my end. You can see the older version in the image below, download link: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/fundamentals/desktop-latest-update-archive#august-2020-upd...

I am not sure about the preview feature. I couldn't find any information from Microsoft. We contacted Microsoft support and they suggested us to try with the older version (prior to September) and it worked for us.

Hi,

I just downgrade to Sep 2020 edition. And it already hit me with some limitation of Direct Query.

In the latest version, I can add Custom column for just some string manipulation  like "Text.Start([Month longname],3) & Text.End([Month longname],5))" without the warning it is not supported, but in August 2020 does.

Have you experience the same, or I just missed out some setting ?

Thanks

I used the August version of PowerBI and created a new report on this version. My report has columns (added a new column) and measures. I don't face any errors/warnings and haven't made any changes in settings.

Additionally, I was trying to use the DAX function i.e. format() and it gives me an error that can't use DAX in Direct Query mode so I removed it.
