Hi,
My database fields have 2 decimal places but I'd like to display them in a matrix visualisation with no decimal places. Is there a way to do this in the matrix (as a display preference) without changing the underlying data? (or should I create new calculated fields with no decimal places and use those in the matrix?)
Thanks,
CM
Solved! Go to Solution.
In the data model, you can use the Modeling tab, formatting section, to control the decimal places displayed. This does not change the underlying data. You can prove this to yourself by setting the formatting to 0 decimals and then creating a custom column where you multiply that column by 1.0. In this new column you will see that the underlying data still has the decimal numbers.

This solution does not satisfy my need. There are times when I need the decimal places and others where I do not. My only solution at the moment is to create two different measures carrying the same data with different formats. Just like we can now overwrite the name of a field inside a visualization, I need the ability to format the value inside the visualization (without changing my default setting in the model).
I agree with pjohnson4684. We need the ability to format the display of numbers in each visualization, especially precision. Is there no way to do this?
