Decimal number data type and format column shows as dropdown in slicer

I'm trrying to create a slicer an on amount field in my data source that's formatted as Data Type Decimal Number and format Decimal number. When I add it to a slicer, each individual amount in the column shows up as a selection, like it's text. How might I address this issue? I tried to create a new measure based on this field, but DAX isn't even autopopulating the field name in the formula. Thanks for any thoughts you may have!

Thank you for your reply. I reviewed the link and must've glossed over the relevant bit. When I add my amount field to the slicer, I only have the option for it to display as either List or Dropdown, which suggests to me it's seeing my decimal amount field not as numeric but as text. Do I have to do some special data type instantiation to have this field appear as numeric?

Hi Mark,

Are you using the latest version of the Power BI Desktop (December 2018 update or later). Numeric range slicer was in preview until recently and if you are not using the latest version, you would need to enable that setting from the File - > Options & Settings -> Options -> Global - Preview Features - Numeric range slicer.

Its best though to download the latest version of the Power BI Desktop to get access to all the latest features.

Tarun

Ah! Well, that may explain it. Can I run a version of desktop that's more recent than the version of our on-prem server? My understanding has been that I'm stuck on the Desktop "Optimized for Report Server" version that matches our server (which is presently the March 2018 version).

Thanks so much for your reply; I really appreciate your time.
